Sports Life at SAHESEMU






Sports at Sacred Heart Seminary, Mubende is part of Seminary formation. It is highly valued and respected as an important co-curricular activity. Sports activities normally take place, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday between 2 – 5:45 Pm. A number of games are played at Sacred Heart seminary Mubende, for example, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Lawn tennis, and Badminton.
Our seminarians also actively participate in indoor games such as Board game (Omweso), Table tennis, Ruddo, Cards, Draft, snake and ladder, and so forth. The indoor games are played between 2:00PM and 5:45PM as well as after supper from 8:00PM to 8:30PM.
According to the Seminary program, Inter-Class competitions in Football, Volleyball, Basketball are held in the First Term. The Seminary Sports Day is organized on House level. On this day, Seminarians compete in many sport’s activities. During the Second Term, Inter-House competitions in Football, Volleyball and Basketball are held. Following the completion of these competitions, marks and other prizes such as trophies, medals, among others, are awarded.
Why is sports important in our seminary formation?
It is important because of the following.
• It helps the participants to be physically fit.
• Sports helps in character formation of the Seminarians.
• It helps the Seminarians to learn how to co-operate, associate and interact with one another since most of the games are played in groups. Sports build team work.
• Health-wise, sports help the Seminarians to fight diseases such as heart attack, pressure, diabetes, obesity and so forth.
• It also helps the Seminarians to learn how to respect authority, rules and regulations. This is so because, in all the games we play, one has to abide by the rules and regulations which govern a particular game.
• It helps the Seminarians to attain the virtue of persevere since at times they have to go through hardships to attain a win.
Sports is a compulsory activity at the Seminary.
